Designed with the principle of flexibility in mind, the building is prepared to adapt to potential technical and organisational changes. The Banco de Sangre y Tejidos also incorporates energy solutions that make it one of the most efficient buildings in Europe, which earned it recognition in various exhibitions and awards: Barcelone Meeting Point – Endesa Award 2010; Sustainable Architecture 2010; European Architect’s Council of Europe; it was a finalist in the Energy Europa Awards of the European Parliament in 2011; it represented Spain at the World Sustainable Building Conference in Helsinki 2011; and took part in the Buenos Aires Architecture Biennial in 2011. For all these reasons, this was a truly unique project. The construction was largely composed of white concrete elements, with façades standing out due to their cut-out windows, built using a climbing formwork system.
